Team Underwater Explorers

Team Underwater Explorers was formed in 2001 by a group of local Cape Town divers who after being certified to conduct deep air/mixed gas dives were frustrated at a lack of availability to the average technical diver to gain access to the vast amount of deep, unexplored / virgin dive sites in the greater Cape Town area. This unavailability was mainly due to the local dive industry catering for the large majority of recreational divers at the expense of the small amount of active technical divers. Of primary concern was the lack of dedicated technical dive boats and to a lesser degree quality technical instruction.

In order to address these problems, Team Underwater Explorers secured the exclusive use of "Urchin", the 6.5m semi-rigid of Underwater Explorers for all their technical dives. Numerous tech dives have been conducted off this vessel over the years and she has proved herself to be a very capable tech diving boat. We are currently the most active technical diving group in Cape Town.

Team Underwater Explorers furthermore aims to continue to increase public awareness of technical diving, whilst ensuring that through in-depth and extensive training courses, safety and standards are not compromised.

Team Underwater Explorers are firm believers in the NAUI TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT CONFIGURATION (NTEC) way of diving. This method of diving is based on Holgarthian principles, and being a very strict regime, it is very suitable for the type of technical diving we conduct in Cape Town. For technical diving one not only needs to be extremely competent but also very dedicated and well disciplined. The completion of the necessary courses, many in-water hours, constant review of skills and extensive experience will go a long way in preparing you for the rigors of technical diving.

Ultimately it is your attitude, experience and training that will determine your success and safety.
